Experience of working with third sector organisations

Experience
After a career in banking & finance and accountancy, I joined the WRVS (large national charity) as the Regional Financial Controller and managed a team of 600 project treasurers who were mainly volunteers. After this I joined Business Link In Durham as a Social Enterprise Adviser. Finally, I have been Project Manager for CapitaliSE for the last 5 years. Here I mainly advise third sector organisations on access to finance and financial management. Through CapitaliSE I have delivered on contracts around this subject area in Northumberland and the North West region. CapitaliSE has dealt with over 600 enquiries and secured over 90 loans for third sector organisations. I have also been an advisor/supporter nationally for the Adventure Capital Fund. Currently I am working part time with the Social Investment Business as a senior assessor for their Social Enterprise Investment Fund and about to commence a small Venture Capital project in Middlesbrough.

Allendale Creative Artists CIC

"I first worked with John Probert at the beginning of 2008 when the ACA CIC began planning for a proposed and very ambitious £800k development in Allendale town centre. I have been able to work with John throughout the project, gaining advice about accessing finance in the form of loans, forecasting business cash flows, managing the accounts, bolt-on funding and models. John has not only offered expert advice and attended meetings but has been flexible and knowledgeable of how the voluntary sector works."

Dinamic Ceramics/Enterprises

"John Probert, of Capitalise, has been involved in the start up and consequent development of Dinamic Ceramics (now Dinamic Enterprises Limited) from 2006 to present. John helped shape the original business plan, based on the research the board had undertaken, and worked closely with me on the 3 year financial plan and first year cash flow forecasts whilst helping to secure our initial loan funding through the Loan Investment Fund (now The Social Enterprise Loan Fund). During this time John has worked alongside me in a professional mentoring capacity and his help and advice was critical in reshaping the business strategy as the effects of the 2008 recession began to affect our trading revenues. The fact that we not only survived the recession but grew our trading income in 2008/9 is testament to his skills and abilities."
