Experience of working with third sector organisations
Experience
I have worked in the voluntary and community sector (VSC), as well as the grant making sector for nearly 30 years. I have managed three voluntary organisations including a disability organisation and a Council for Voluntary Sector. In the organisations I managed, I was instrumental in 'growing' the organisations, through successful fundraising. I obtained funding from a variety of sources including trusts and foundations, local authority and health authority contracts, private sector finance and support-in-kind. While in London, I set up a number of new services including a carers' centre, a community transport scheme, a disability information centre, a befriending service for young people with learning disabilities and an Alzheimer's Weekend Break project. I have also assessed grant applications and monitored the progress of hundreds of organisations in the North East and Cumbria when I was the Deputy Director of the Northern Rock Foundation. As a grants assessor I had to be aware of the political environment in which the sector operates and how its relationship with the statutory sector differs borough by borough. I endeavour to keep abreast of central government policy and the impact this has on the sector.

The Learning Team
"Anne is familiar with good management and governance practices and has the appropriate skills in this area. It was because of these skills and experiences, and the excellent reputation and respect that Anne has both within the VCS and across the third sector, that I commissioned her in 2008 to carry out a large evaluation of a mental health related project for two local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). The result is an excellent and extremely useful tool that can be used by the PCTs to improve the project and enable the longer term sustainability of the project in delivering high quality services to the community. Anne's good communication skills ensure that problems are dealt with quickly, gently and efficiently. She is self-motivated and extremely hard working, as demonstrated in the enormous amount of desk-top research involved with the PCT evaluation that we had not foreseen at the start. She is honest, reliable and has a good sense of humour. Combining these personal qualities with her invaluable work experiences and skills to do the job, I can highly recommend Anne Burleigh as a person who would always carry out her duties professionally, humanely and to the highest possible standard."

Skills for People
"Anne Burleigh carried out an evaluation of Skills for People in early 2009. We were very happy with Anne's involvement. Anne sought the views of our staff, service users, external agencies and the Board of Directors. The feedback from these stakeholders was comprehensively reported, and thoughtfully analysed to make recommendations for the future. Anne's manner was respectful and appropriate across the wide range of stakeholders involved. Anne showed a clear understanding about our organisation, its role, strengths and the challenges faced. Her extensive experience in the voluntary and community sector and her knowledge about procurement, and charitable funding were most helpful to us. She also had great insight into the issues, concerns and needs of disabled people and our role in relation to them. We have been able to use Anne’s report to help us to gain some funding towards the salary of our Chief Executive; and to seek investment for our business function. Anne's work exceeded our expectations. She produced an excellent evaluation which we continue to use to inform us through a process of change. She was sensitive to our needs, whilst delivering in an effective and timely manner."
