Experience
As a volunteer I helped set up a Development Trust in 1995 and was Treasurer for 5 years. I have worked as Chief Officer of a Development Trust for 4 years. I currently act as ad hoc worker for Holy Island Trust.
I set up my own consultancy in 2001 working with community and voluntary sector bodies. I am a consultant adviser/mentor for Enterprise Accelerator, Adventure Capital Fund and Advancing Assets programme.
In lthe ast 5 years I have worked a lot with community led affordable housing schemes and I am an adviser to the Community Land Trust Fund. I have published various reports and practical guides on the affordable housing subject for Development Trust Association and Action for Market Towns. For 18 months I was Programme Manager for European Grant programme.

"David first helped us over 5 years ago when the Northern Rock Foundation asked him to help sort out our future plans following the loss of our only worker. Since then he has helped us with a variety of projects we have undertaken. In 2007, he was instrumental in bringing together our Viking 793 exhibition in our Island Heritage Centre securing over £100,000 in funding from Lottery and other funders. His last project has been our building of 4 new 3-bed houses for rent to local people. David’s expertise proved invaluable in securing funding for this project. Especially from the Homes and Communities Agency where we are the first Trust in the U.K to receive this funding. Over the years, David has also been a tremendous help, giving advice and support to our Trust Governance. i.e Companies House, Charity Commission, Bank and financial issues."

"David has worked as a consultant on the feasibility study and business plan for the former Co-op building in Loftus East Cleveland over two periods of time. I have always found him to have clarity of understanding of quite complex issues, able to identify the simple steps to take to effect change and move things forward. He is extremely accommodating about when he is needed and where and what for. He his clear about his tasks and reporting on the progress and identifying where tasks are moving away from the anticipated way forward. He has a particular skill in understanding and unpicking the problems that are be-set by personality issues and working out imaginative and straight forward ways to unlock deadlock. The quality of work is high and he is always on the top of my list for consultants for this kind of work."
