Second Round of Feasibility Grants Issued

The second round of grants have been issued from our feasibility fund.  We are pleased to announce that Washington Mind, The NDC Trust and Sir William Turner's Almshouses have all been successful in receiving funding to go towards the cost of undertaking a feasibility study for their respective capital development projects.

Below is a summary of their proposed projects...

Washington Mind
Washington Mind are considering the options of either building a first floor extension onto their existing building or purchasing another building to meet the expanding needs of the organisation.  The project would enable them to accommodate their expanding team, deliver their services including therapies, have a designated reception area, and meet requirements for disabled access.  Washington Mind intend to use the grant to carry out a feasibility study to research the most appropriate development for their base or any other opportunities available to them.

The NDC Trust
The NDC Trust plan to develop a Victorian community hall in central Hartlepool.  The building will serve a valuable purpose within the community, providing additional space and facilities for Hartlepool Art Studio Ltd, a local charity that aids the recovery of people suffering from emotional and mental ill health, using art as a therapeutic tool.  The NDC Trust wishes to renovate the hall to improve its environmental performance, modernise and enhance the quality of the building, and provide better facilities for users.  The Trust will use the feasibility grant to scope out the project and receive professional advice about development and design options to ensure optimum use of the building.

A decade ago Sir William Turner’s Almshouses undertook a £1.4m major refurbishment of their 17th Century Grade-1 Listed building largely funded by the Housing Corporation.  The work was limited to the social housing aspects of the building work.   They are now looking to restore and repair the external historical features to complete the restoration of the building and to halt the continuing decay, thereby secure the building for the next 50-100 years.  Sir William Turner’s Almshouses will use their grant to fund research into potential funding sources and hence determine the feasibility of the proposed programme of work.
